In an earlier post we learned about VAT. The next natural question is “how do i get rid of VAT?” Today we’ll look at a relative easy way to do that.
One of the main concerns, as you may recall, is that VAT inhibits the normal function of several hormones, especially insulin. No bueno.
Here is what I found on the topic, and I like the way that things are summed up:
“The question of what specific type of exercise will give you a better chance of reducing the jelly in your belly, was answered in April, 2014 in the Journal of Sports Sciences. Researchers found that aerobic training combined with resistance training was much more effective at improving the levels of visceral and subcutaneous fat, compared to those who did just aerobic training alone. The recommendation then, is to find an aerobic workout that works for your lifestyle, and combine it with some sort of resistance training.” (emphasis added. also, i can’t for the life of me find where i wrote down the source. trust me, though, it wasn’t John Tesh or Wikipedia…)
What does that mean? There is no ‘magic pill’ or ‘specialized diet/food/powder’ that will target VAT. It will decrease as your overall health improves and your overall body fat percentage decreases.
People often ask me, “what is the best workout for me?” My response, nearly every time: “One that you’ll DO.”
Experiment. Play around. Borrow some DVD’s from a friend, take a class or two, or recall something in your past that you looked forward to doing and do that. Combine it with strength training (bands, weights, body-weight), and BE CONSISTENT.
You’ll get rid of VAT if you stick with it.
